A 90-minute professional development workshop delivered through this website. Participants work directly with the site rather than watching slides, using the interactive learning activities as they go.

Not yet scheduled. This page describes the workshop design. No date, time, presenter, or registration link has been set.

Who the Workshop Is For

The material is pitched so that beginners can follow it and experienced clinicians still find something useful.

Predoctoral dental students

Students meeting prosthodontic concepts for the first time, or preparing for clinical rotations.

Prosthodontic residents

Residents deepening their digital workflow knowledge and treatment planning reasoning.

Dental educators and clinical faculty

Faculty looking for teaching resources and a shared reference point for students.

Practicing dentists

Clinicians seeking a structured update on contemporary prosthodontic technology and planning.

Prospective residents and graduate learners

Anyone exploring prosthodontics as a specialty and wanting to understand the department's approach.

No prior digital experience needed

Every activity starts from first principles. Participants who have never used a scanner or design software can take part fully.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Navigate the website efficiently to locate educational, clinical, and research resources.
  • Explain how prosthodontics supports oral function, esthetics, and quality of life.
  • Describe the role of digital technologies in diagnosis, planning, and restorative care.
  • Analyze educational clinical resources using evidence-based principles.
  • Develop an individualized professional-learning plan.

Schedule

Six segments across 90 minutes. Each one ends with participants doing something on the website.

Workshop schedule, 90 minutes total
Time Segment What participants do
0 to 10 minutes Welcome and engagement Introduce the workshop, the department's mission, and the website. Participants open the home page and share what brought them to prosthodontics or digital dentistry.
10 to 25 minutes Website orientation and scavenger hunt Guided tour of the main sections, followed by the digital scavenger hunt described below.
25 to 45 minutes Digital dentistry concepts Review scanning, CAD/CAM, and three-dimensional printing using the education page, then complete the knowledge check.
45 to 65 minutes Clinical case analysis Work through the clinical case activity individually or in small groups, then compare reasoning.
65 to 80 minutes Professional development planning Complete the professional development planner and share one takeaway with the group.
80 to 90 minutes Assessment and feedback Review knowledge check results, summarize key concepts, and complete the workshop evaluation.

Workshop Activities

Four activities, each anchored to a part of this website.

Activity 1: Digital scavenger hunt

Working alone or in pairs, find each of the following on this website and note the page it appears on:

  1. The department's mission statement.
  2. The five stages of the patient-care process.
  3. The four research categories the department is interested in.
  4. The sentence explaining why technology does not replace clinical judgment.
  5. Where continuing-education courses will be listed.
  6. How to report an accessibility problem with this website.

Purpose: build familiarity with how the site is organized so that participants can find things again later.

Activity 2: Multimedia exploration

Participants review the digital dentistry material on the education page and the technology section of the clinical excellence page, then discuss:

  • Which step of the workflow is most likely to introduce error?
  • What has to be true about the data before a design is worth making?
  • Where does the dental laboratory fit into the process?

Activity 3: Clinical decision-making exercise

Small groups work through the fictional case on the interactive learning page, identify what further information they would need, and justify their reasoning using evidence they locate during the session.

Purpose: practice applying evidence and structured reasoning to a realistic situation rather than recalling facts.

Activity 4: Professional development planner

Each participant completes the planner worksheet, naming a learning goal, three resources, how each will be used, a next action, and a target date. The worksheet can be printed or saved as a PDF.

Purpose: leave the session with a concrete plan rather than a general intention.

Evaluation

Two kinds of feedback: what happens during the session, and what participants report afterwards.

During the session

  • Knowledge check results, discussed as a group rather than collected.
  • Facilitator observation of participation in the case discussion.
  • Whether participants can find scavenger hunt items without help.
  • Questions raised during the digital dentistry segment.

After the session

  • Whether the stated learning outcomes were achieved.
  • How easy the website was to navigate.
  • Quality and relevance of the resources.
  • Accessibility and usability of the materials.
  • Overall satisfaction with the session.

Accessibility and Technical Support

What participants need, and what to do if something does not work.

What you need

A device with a current web browser and an internet connection. A phone works, though a tablet or computer is easier for the worksheets. No software needs to be installed and no account is required.

Accessibility

All activities can be completed using a keyboard alone and work with screen readers. Worksheets can be printed and completed on paper. See the accessibility statement for full details and for how to request an adjustment.

If something does not work

The activities need JavaScript for automatic scoring. If it is turned off, the quiz answer key is still available on the page. For any other problem, contact the department through the contact page.
